Five ways online degree courses can save you big money

Five ways online degree courses can save you big money

Besides the flexibility and convenience, distance learning is quickly gaining a lot of popularity thanks to its lower costs compared to those associated with the traditional brick and mortar colleges.
There are several ways in which online learning helps students to make big savings on their expenses with the following five being the most fundamental.

1.) Tuition fees

Although tuition costs vary from one school to the other, online programs usually attract lower tuition fees compared to on-campus programs.

This is attributed to the short duration it takes to complete online programs compared to regular programs and the fact that online students need not pay for maintenance of school structures, grounds, amenities and accessories since they do not use them.

2.) Text books and printing

Online programs mostly deliver their learning materials in a downloadable format which saves the students on cost of buying textbooks, stationery as well as printing and photocopying expenses.

College textbooks are expensive and considering the number of classes a student has to take over the years, the cost can add up to a lot of money.

3.) Accommodation

Accommodation contributes a huge chunk of a student’s expenses in the traditional brick and mortar mode of study. Students who live too far away to commute have to find housing in or around the campus.

This becomes an extra expense for those who have been residing with parents and those who are leaving a family behind meaning they are paying for accommodation twice which would not be the case if they enrolled in an online program and studied at home.

4.) Transport

In a day, commuting fee such as bus fare, fuel cost and parking fees might not seem like a lot of money but when summed up, it adds up to a considerable amount of money during the span of the program.

Even students who live on campus still have to travel home over the weekends to spend time with their families. The longest journey an online student has to take is from his couch or bed to the study desk.

5.) Food

Some colleges do not provide kitchen facilities for their on-campus residents opting to instead incorporate a meal plan in the tuition fees.

More often than not, these meal plans happen to be more costly than if the students were to cook for themselves.

Besides being costly, the quality of the food served in school cannot compare to home food which an online student continues to enjoy as they further their education.

The savings made from all the above avenues can are huge and cannot be ignored.

Furthermore, online students continue to work and get an income in the course of their programs something that regular students find quite challenging.
